Alderney Rugby Club was established in March 2018 with the intention of adding a rugby culture to Alderney. It all started with a meeting consisting of 16 players. There has never been a rugby team on alderney so we thought it was the right time to make history with a good amount of people interested in the game.

We will be looking at bringing juniors rugby training sessions as-well so that they have a better understanding of the game and can carry the club into the future. The club is getting stronger and stronger each week, With more and more people turning up to training, special events, and a lot of support from local businesses on the island.

Our next stages of progression is that we are looking for more sponsors and fixtures in the channel islands and further a field.

Words From Our....

Sarah Kelly

2019 has been the first full year of Alderney Rugby Football Union Club. And what a year it has been. An international tour to Cherbourg, home games against clubs from the other Islands and a return match in Sark where we had a very convincing win.

We have continued to thrive as a club. We are continuing to increase our player numbers and I admire their commitment to the twice weekly training sessions, especially as the winter nights are drawing in!

The club is lucky to have a dedicated and enthusiastic management team. Harry, Charlie and Craig continually keep the team motivated and trained to the highest standards. This is no mean feat when games are few and far between.

However, none of the above would be possible if it wasn’t for the support and financial assistance we receive from the Alderney Community as a whole. The support of Martin Windward and all the staff at the school is invaluable. Martin has made the school available to us for training and matches with his staff helping us outside of school hours. We are also grateful for the sponsorship, vice president memberships and donations that we have received. We are overwhelmed by the generosity of this small community.

However, we are always looking to improve our training equipment and this costs money. If you would like to sponsor a player, join as a vice president or make a donation, please see the Support Us section of this site.

So what is in store for 2020. Increasing our player numbers would strengthen our squad and allow for full 15-aside games. Why don’t you pop down to the school on training days to see if rugby is the game for you. We are hoping to organise more matches, both home and away. If you are a member of a club and want to organise a match, please get in touch with us.

And lastly, a huge thank you to the players, the management team and all those who support us in this new venture for Alderney.

Chairman/Head Coach

Haraldo Symington

Welcome to everyone to Alderney Ridunians RFC, first of all I would like to introduce myself, I’m Harry Symington Head Coach, Player And chairman of the club. My experience in rugby is pretty high, I spent three years studying rugby at hartpury college in Gloucestershire and shortly after got a job working for Worcester warriors. I am also a qualified ski instructor and kayak/canoe river leader (skiing not so much use in alderney) The club is always on the look out for new recruits and any knowledge to the game people want to give. We have played many games now and progress each time we play. If you are interested in sorting out a fixture please contact us via our contact page.

Last of all I would personally like to thank all the players/supporters/sponsors for showing tremendous passion for the game we love.

Conditioning Coach

Charlie Hetherton

It’s my job to ensure that our players are educated with sound nutritional & lifestyle advice to maximise their performance on and off the pitch. I develop and prescribe very carefully planned out rugby-specific programmes that focus entirely on the player’s individual needs and position role. I’d like to think that we form a very cohesive working relationship with the Head Coach, Committee Members and it’s players.
